The man accused of murdering two Feilding pensioners told police he was expecting them to catch up with him.
David Konia is on trial for the murders of Ted Fergusson and Margaret Walden, last May.
Detective Ash Gurney told the court, during his supervision of the accused man on the day he was arrested, that Konia said he had been expecting police, and that something was in his house and police would find it.
Former police officer Callum Davie was present when Konia was shown video surveillance of him on the night of the murders.
He told the court that Konia said cameras do not lie and neither does DNA.
He said the man added: "There's things in my flat and you guys will piece it together and then you'll know what happened."
