He said the walkabout gave all Masterton people the chance to have a say in what they thought council should do.
"Obviously, there is going to be contrasting views and, at the end of the day, it will be council who has to make the decision but, by allowing public input, we will be better informed as councillors as to whether there is greater support for one of the options than others.
"I urge anybody who has an opinion to come along, hear a history of the aviary and join in the conversation as to what the next steps should be," Mr Caffell said.
Council considers upgrading the park island to be well overdue and, during the walkabout, people will be told how the council intends to turn it into something special.
"We have already had a comprehensive report from an arborist as to what trees are past their use-by-date and tenders have been called to have them felled and removed.
"A working group made up of Friends of the Park, Miniature Train Society, archivist and historian Gareth Winter, POST group members and council officers are considering future plans for the island."
One of the more favoured ideas involves turning it into a children's garden, complementing Kids Own playground.
"The walkabout will give people a chance to comment on that and suggest any proposals of their own," Mr Caffell said.
"It will also be a chance for them to recommend a possible name for the island."
The walkabout will start outside the aviary at 10am.
If the weather is unsuitable it will be deferred to a later date.
