KEY POINTS:
The woman killed when a commuter train hit her car on a Featherston crossing on Tuesday was Joanne Christina Boomert, 50, of Masterton.
The accident happened at Speedy's Crossing on Western Lake Rd, south of Featherston, just before 7pm.
Ms Boomert was alone in the car, which was hit by a Tranz Metro passenger train carrying 190 passengers heading from Wellington to Masterton. No one on board was hurt.
Police are still investigating the crash but witness accounts indicated Ms Boomert had stopped at the crossing stop sign before driving on to the tracks.
