Extra police were called out to Featherston yesterday after reports were received of a group of young people congregating in the town.
Senior Sergeant Mike Sutton said police were called out to the area near the skate park shortly after 12am.
Police initially took an observation role, he said.
"Once we had a stronger police presence they dispersed on their own without anything coming out of it," Mr Sutton said.
The Bottle-O liquor store in Featherston was broken into on Tuesday night, he said.
It was unclear at this stage what was taken, but it was understood the theft took place about an hour before the skate park call out.
Mr Sutton said police would continue to make their presence visible in the town.
"We are just ensuring visibility in Featherston so that there's that community reassurance to the wider public."
