Featherston junior soccer players are ready to go this season, with an extra team and upgraded equipment and facilities.
President of Featherston United Soccer Carrie Watson said that two years ago the club had four teams, and the number had climbed steadily with five teams last year and six this year, taking the total junior club membership up to 80 kids.
"The numbers are growing as soccer grows in New Zealand. The teams are coached by enthusiastic, dedicated parents who are all out there training hard with their teams and the teams have a huge following from friends and family - the sidelines are always full on Saturdays."
Equipment, facilities and shirts have had a big overhaul this year, thanks to the resurrection of the Featherston Soccer Committee which is busy upgrading the equipment and facilities, and a grant from Prime Community Trust towards new shirts for the intermediate team. "The committee stopped because of low numbers - we only had two teams six years ago - but now that numbers are up, it was resurrected this year. We would like to say a huge thank you to the committee for upgrading the equipment and facilities and to the Prime Community Trust for giving us the grant.
