Featherston club shines at awards

The small Featherston club was standing proud when Bowls Wairarapa held their 2011-12 season awards function in Masterton on Saturday.

Not only did they pick up the Club of the Year award, but their president Darkie Barrow was Official of the Year.

For the second successive year the Player of the Year trophy was won by Masterton's Ian Monaghan, who now has a remarkable 44 centre titles, and Lansdowne stalwart Val Whitley was Administrator of the Year. The prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Bowls Wairarapa award went to David Murray (Martinborough) and chosen as Greenkeeper of the Year was Eketahuna's Walker Bowyer.

McKerrow 10yrs and under playing experience mixed pairs: Martin Sears and Sandra Butterworthy (South End).

Wairarapa Electrical women's open singles: Makaia Campbell (Eketahuna).

Mangin Graphic men's open pairs: Ian Monaghan and Scott MacKenzie (Masterton).

Nuview Wealth Solutions women's open pairs: Sue Sherwood and Jean Paku (Lansdowne).

Fagan Ford men's open singles: Ian Monaghan (Masterton).

Professionals 2-4-2 mixed pairs: Peter Davidson and Sue Sherwood (Lansdowne).

Trust House women's open fours: Jean Paku, Sue Sherwood, Val Whitley and Flo Watkins (Lansdowne).

Trust House men's open fours: Peter Ramsey, Bruce Miller, Garry Millicich, Rhys Hakkens (Wilton).

Judith Wyeth (Masterton) won her 10th centre title and Sue Sherwood (Lansdowne), Flo Watkins (Lansdowne) and Lester Dee (Martinborough) won their fifth centre titles, earning a gold star.
