KEY POINTS:
Fears are growing for the wellbeing of Whangaparaoa woman Alanah Brough, who has not been seen for nearly two weeks - despite having two children at home who depend on her.
The 39-year-old mother of two has not touched her bank accounts or made any contact with her family since last being seen by neighbours on January 30.
Detective Mark Palma said Ms Brough had displayed some unusual behaviour in the weeks leading up to her disappearance but nothing that indicated where she might have gone or what had happened to her since.
The day before she vanished Ms Brough was in a car accident at South Head and was picked up by some locals after they saw her walking down the road. She was given a bed to stay in that night but left in the morning and was picked up by another motorist.
She returned to her Stanmore Bay home - which she shares with her mother and children, who are aged 7 and 14, about noon that day. She spoke with her mother who then had to go out for the afternoon.
About 8pm that night she took her dog for a walk but soon returned home without the dog. A neighbour saw her leave the house again and she never returned.
A member of the public later found the dog wandering the streets, while its collar was found stashed behind the couch at Ms Brough's house - indicating she might have deliberately let the dog loose.
Mr Palma said Ms Brough had left her home on two occasions before Christmas but never for more than 24 hours. Although her behaviour indicated possible mental health issues there was no history of any problems.
Nor was there any indication from friends or family that she was using drugs.
Mr Palma said her car was found in South Head still crashed on the side of the road.
Mr Palma said her family were "very concerned", as were police.
"Concern is growing daily because someone disappearing for a day or two isn't particularly unusual ... but it's now day 12."
