KEY POINTS:
A search has resumed this morning for a 78-year-old man, missing since Tuesday afternoon from the Lower Hutt suburb of Stokes Valley.
A police spokesman said today there had been no sign of Graeme McNaughton overnight.
About 20 members of Search and Rescue searched without success for Mr McNaughton yesterday.
Search and rescue co-ordinator Sergeant Jo Holden said concerns had grown for his safety, particularly because of the weather. It has rained on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
"We would like people in the Stokes Valley area to look around their property in case Mr McNaughton has become disorientated and perhaps attempted to find a short-cut home.
"We would also like anyone who may have seen someone matching his description out last night to call us," she said yesterday.
Mr McNaughton was last seen when he left his house.
He walked most days on and around Stokes Valley Road and often walked up to a nearby Buddhist monastery, Ms Holden said.
Mr McNaughton was described as a slim Caucasian, approximately 1.70m tall. He had silver hair and may have been wearing glasses. He was thought to be wearing dark clothing, casual shoes and possibly a dark jacket with a stripe down the side.
