KEY POINTS:
Police are growing increasingly anxious about an 11-year-old girl reported missing a week ago today.
Gemma Williams was last seen about 8.30pm last Tuesday. Family members she was staying with in Mt Roskill discovered she was not in her room at 9.30 the next morning.
Police think she may have headed towards Pukekohe but are not sure.
The officer in charge of the case, Sergeant Steve Williams, said Pukekohe police spent last night distributing flyers featuring Gemma's photo and asking for information about her whereabouts.
Mr Williams said that while there was no reason to think Gemma had become the victim of foul play, police and her family were worried about the length of time she had been missing.
"We actually haven't had any confirmed sightings of her so we're getting increasingly concerned about her. She hasn't got any financial support or anything.
"People could be looking after her but we don't really know. She could be sleeping rough. We're a bit concerned she might run into the wrong sort of people."
Gemma was staying with family in Mt Roskill but also has family in Pukekohe.
She had a row with her family before she was last seen, but police are reluctant to reveal more.
"There was a minor discipline problem," Mr Williams said. "She hasn't been physically taken from her home address ... She's left of her own free will."
Gemma is described as Maori, of thin build and 140-150cm tall. She was last seen wearing an army-type jacket with fur in the hood, blue jeans and red and black Converse lace-up ankle shoes.
