KEY POINTS:
Grey Lynn dairy owner Shantilal Prema - whose brother Shashikant was stabbed in a robbery last week - knows the feeling of living with the daily fear of violence.
"I am an insurance broker with many dairy owners and clients, and the situation is more frightening when I know the facts and figures.
"Two to three years ago, two intruders walked in at 5.15pm and one used a crowbar to open the cash register and the other guy started emptying the tobacco displays. One took a swing at me but just missed my neck, and was trying to put his hand in his bag. God knows what he had. A police car came past, the guys started running and the police ran after them.
"We were told they were on drugs. We had a restorative meeting. We just wanted to meet them because we had a fear they would retaliate. These guys were sober and very sorry. The problem lies within the community at large. It starts with the family and schools, which are not as strict as they used to be."
