A points fault has halted some Wellington trains and delayed others this morning.
Operator Tranz Metro said services on the Hutt Valley, Melling and Paraparaumu lines were running up to 30 minutes late, while Plimmerton, Porirua and Upper Hutt trains have been stopped temporarily while the problem was fixed.
Communications manager Nigel Parry said the points fault at the Wellington junction had significantly reduced the speed with which the company could get the trains into Wellington.
"Basically all the delays followed on from that fault at the junction.
"The situation is sorting itself out by the minute as I can see some trains coming into Wellington."
Tranz Metro apologised for the delays.
