A man has been found dead with his 2-year-old son, shocking neighbours in a quiet upmarket street - and leaving behind a grieving mother.
Waimauku neighbour Sheryl Houston was leaving work on Friday evening when she heard emergency vehicles heading into Cloverfields Drive as a Santa parade was wrapping up.
"I heard ambulances and sirens and all that going on. When I went to go home I thought there'd been a road accident," Houston said. The apparent murder-suicide happened in Buttercup Place, a new subdivision in the area northwest of Auckland.
Police have not released any names but said they were not seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.
However, neighbours said the dead man had worked as an engineer in East Auckland. He was in a relationship with a woman who works at a rehabilitation centre. Their child attended a local kindergarten.
