The father of the young boy who was accidentally run over by his mother says his son is lucky to be alive, after the car narrowly missed his son's head.
Ryan Dingle, 5, was run over by a car his mother Margot was driving at his Te Kauwhata home yesterday.
His father Warren told the Herald, his wife was taking their daughter to gymnastics in Huntly when the incident occurred.
"My wife was reversing out of the driveway and driving off slowly when Ryan decided to sprint out around the corner down the footpath out on the road and grabbed the passenger door handle.
"She was driving and she didn't see him coming and my daughter saw Ryan trip and then he went straight under the back wheel."
