The father of a Southland man shot during a hunting trip to Stewart Island, has pleaded guilty to careless use of a firearm.
Stephen Phillip Long, 61, of Southland, appeared in the Invercargill District Court this morning.
His son, Samuel Phillip Long, 24, was killed while hunting on Stewart Island on March 23. Stephen Long was remanded at large for sentencing on August 4.
His lawyer, John Fraser, said he would seek a discharge without conviction for his client.
