A father of two young children who was killed in a car crash will miss out on seeing his daughter and son grow up.
"It was meant to be forever," his distraught partner said of the couple's relationship.
Chaz Mourea Morgan, 22, was killed yesterday afternoon, only minutes away from his Te Awamutu home.
Police say he was driving on a learner's licence when the Mazda he was driving and a Ford Falcon XR6 collided head-on just outside the Waikato town.
A 63-year-old woman and two children, aged 10 and 8, in that car were injured. The younger child and the woman remain in hospital. Mr Morgan was the only occupant of his vehicle.
Yesterday, his partner, Katene Morris, told TVNZ's Te Karere that he was heading to pick her up from work at the time.
"Our baby is just 4 months old. He won't see our son grow up, or our daughter," she said.
"I was at work. He came to pick me up at 4.30pm. He was running late, but before that I just felt something strange. I felt something and it wasn't right.
Senior Sergeant Steve Ambler of the Waikato highway patrol said initial indications were "that a Mazda car heading towards Te Awamutu has failed to negotiate a bend and crossed the centre-line, colliding head-on with a Ford Falcon XR6 sedan travelling in the opposite direction".
