The father of a kidnapped six-year-old says a "hostage tape" of his son which demands the release of the boy's mother from jail, is "sickening and heartwrenching".
Jayden Headley's father Chris Jones yesterday won a court injunction to stop Television New Zealand from screening a video tape of his son.
Mr Jones said his former father-in-law Dick Headley had sent the footage, believed to have been shot recently, to the television channel on Monday.
Mr Jones' lawyer Thomas Sutcliffe said the ruling meant TVNZ could not show any of the video, but could show still shots from the footage, which they aired last night.
Mr Jones said he was sickened by the "hostage tape" of the kidnapped boy, which included demands the boy's mother Kay Skeltbe freed from jail.
An emotional Mr Jones said the psychological damage being inflicted on Jayden was growing by the day.
"It was nothing short of a hostage tape with Jayden appearing on it and the grandfather making various demands.
"It was absolutely heartwrenching. There is no word to describe it -- I'm sickened by it."
Part of Mr Headley's demands were read on TVNZ's Close Up last night.
One read: "I will return Jayden when I have a written assurance from Helen Clark that Kay Skelton has been released from prison and Jayden will be returned to her care pending a full investigation."
Outside of the Hamilton High Court Mr Jones said there was no need to involve a child in an adult dispute.
"All I've ever wanted is to have a relationship with my son and be involved in my son's life.
"I think my son has the right to have both parents in his life."
Mr Jones said he was very concerned for his son and would love to have him home.
"He's our life and at the moment we're missing a link to our life and until Jayden's returned home it's very difficult to continue with day to day life."
Jayden was snatched three months ago from the Hamilton public library, allegedly by a friend of Skelton.
The six-year-old is believed to be being held in an isolated area, possibly in Northland.
Skelton has spent 22 nights in prison for contempt after defying a court order to reveal the whereabouts of Jayden and her father.
