A father of 10 children has been jailed for seven years and nine months raping a 20-year-old woman.
Shaun Campbell Duncan, 46, was sentenced when he appeared before Justice Judith Potter in the High Court at Whangarei yesterday.
Justice Potter said Duncan had accompanied the woman to her home where he forced her to have sex.
Duncan admitted having sex with the woman but said she had come on to him, the Northern Advocate reported.
Justice Potter said Duncan had, over 27 years, amassed 108 convictions which included 26 for dishonesty, 18 violence offences and 14 relating to alcohol, and four assault convictions included two of assaulting a female.
In 1999 and then again in 2003 he was convicted of indecent assault on a female.
Justice Potter said Duncan's children were aged between two and 17 years and his wife would not let him near them after he had been drinking.
Before sentencing Duncan had a handwritten letter presented to the court in which he expressed remorse for the victim and his own family.
