An Otaki man has been jailed for two and a half years after posting semi-nude pictures of his 14-year-old daughter on the internet.
The 45-year-old man, who has name suppression to protect his daughter's identity, appeared for sentence in Wellington District Court today after a jury in September found him guilty on nine counts of making objectionable material.
The court was told that between 2007 and 2008 the man either took or directed his daughter to take pictures of herself with her breast exposed, in return for mobile phone credit.
He then posted one of the pictures on a website on which visitors give breasts ratings out of 10, showing his daughter what ranking she got.
Passing sentence today, Judge Ian Mill said he took into account the man's previous history of sexual offending, which included two counts of rape and two counts of indecent acts on a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s.
The daughter's victim impact statement said she felt that her father was using her as a "sex target," Judge Mill said.
"You took advantage of her for your own personal satisfaction," he said. "This offending is a serious breach of trust."
During the trial, defence lawyer Steve Gill said the girl took the photos herself with the intention of sending them to her then boyfriend.
Her father continued to deny the offending in court today.
