A Dunedin man will face drink-driving, drugs and firearms charges in court today after being pulled over by police last night with his three-year-old son in the car.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said the 29-year-old was pulled over in the south Dunedin suburb of Corstaphine about 10.20pm and police discovered he had two sawn-off .22 calibre rifles in the back, one of which had live rounds in the magazine.
The vehicle also contained cannabis and a drug pipe. A breath-alcohol test on the driver returned a positive result.
Mr Benn said it appeared the only thing the man managed to do legally was restrain his son correctly in his seat.
The father was taken into custody, awaiting an appearance in Dunedin District Court, while police had to arrange for the boy to be reunited with his mother.
