He also contended that he did not pick his daughter up in the air and throw her but pushed her out of the way, she said.
Ms Pearson said there was no medical evidence and the children went to the school the next day.
"He says in his generation this family violence was more accepted."
Police prosecutor Sergeant Garry Wilson said the defendant was blaming society for his behaviour.
Judge Tony Walsh said it was clear the man used considerable force on his children and they hadbeen assaulted.
"The boy suffered an injury either way ... the girl suffered soreness and bruising to her back."
He convicted and remanded the man for sentencing on December 18.
The man had also been charged with two counts of cruelty to/or ill treatment of a child but police withdrew the charges.
