KEY POINTS:
A teenager facing firearms charges has appeared in court as family of the friend he accidentally shot last weekend prepared for a funeral.
The 17-year-old was granted name suppression in Masterton District Court, where he faced charges of careless use of a firearm causing death and possession of a firearm without a licence.
Aaron Grimwood, 17, who was a close friend of the accused, died at a remote south Wairarapa property on Saturday after the pair had been pig hunting.
Emergency services arrived at a house to find he had been shot in the chest.
Mr Grimwood's father spoke out about the incident before today's funeral and said he understood it was an accident and didn't want police to come down hard on his son's friend.
The teenager, who appeared in court on Tuesday, was remanded on bail to appear again on December 1.
