A motorcyclist killed in a crash in rural Waikato on Saturday was a German man living in Auckland.
Police today said Daniel Aretz, 37, died in the collision between his BMW G650 motorbike and a motorcyclist in a group travelling in the opposite direction.
The crash happened on Makomako Rd - a rural road between Kawhia and Raglan - about 3.25pm.
Acting Waikato road policing manager Senior Sergeant Steve Ambler said family of Mr Aretz, a New Zealand resident, had been informed with help from Interpol and the German consulate.
"The Waikato serious crash unit are still investigating the crash to determine the cause but initial indications are Mr Aretz ... has come across the other motorcyclists while the two parties were negotiating a corner and he died at the scene," he said.
