Fatal house fire in Whanganui

One person has been killed in a house fire near Whanganui this morning.

Firefighters were called to the fully involved fire at Aramoho, northeast of the city, about 8.15am, Fire Service central communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said.

The fire was controlled and the body of an elderly person was found inside the house, although it was not known if they were male or female, he said.

Authorities were investigating.
