The driver killed in a head-on crash in South Canterbury on Tuesday has today been named by police.
Barry James Collins, 47, died when his car collided with another while negotiating an easy corner on State Highway 1 near Orari, police said.
The Timaru man's passenger suffered minor bruising.
A passenger in the other vehicle sustained serious injuries including a possible fractured hip, while the driver in that vehicle escaped with minor bruising.The death has been referred to the coroner.
"Next of kin have been informed and are understandably devastated at their loss and have asked for privacy in the coming weeks," a police statement said. "Victim Support are working with the victim's family at this tragic time."
