Fatal head-on crash north of Taupo

A man is dead following a head-on collision south of Rotorua this morning.

A BayTrust rescue helicopter flew to Atiamuri after the crash between a car and a van at about 8am, BayTrust spokesman Neil Dodds said.

Rotorua St John Paramedic staff worked on the drivers with the help of the Fire Service and both drivers were extricated.

One died at the scene and the second was flown to Waikato Hospital with leg and shoulder injuries.
