Fatal head-on crash near Gore

A woman is dead and two other people injured after a head-on collision near Pukerau, about 10km north of Gore, in Southland today.

The crash, about 6.45am closed State Highway 1 and traffic was diverted, said Senior Sergeant Steve Gregory from the Gore police.

He said it appeared a south-bound car crossed the centre line and collided with a north-bound car.

He said traffic should avoid the area until the road was reopened.
