KEY POINTS:
An Auckland garage in which a person died in a fire this morning may have been used as illegal P lab.
Police would give few details of the fire in the garage behind a house in Paihia Rd, Onehunga, about 7am today.
However, emergency services said there was a danger, possibly from the chemicals used in the manufacture of the methamphetamine drug P, and treated the fire scene as a high-risk area.
Firefighters who put the fire out were decontaminated in showers set up at the house.
It was not known if the dead person was a male or female but another person in the house was treated for minor injuries by ambulance staff.
The garage was burning well when the first of the fire appliances arrived just after 7am.
The body of the victim remained in the garage this morning as fire investigators sifted through the debris to find the cause of the blaze.
