A second person has died in Middlemore Hospital following a two-car crash at Karaka, South Auckland.
Police said the crash happened about 6.40am on State Highway 22 near the intersection of Blackridge Road.
One remaining victim remains in a critical condition.
The highway is still closed and traffic heading east is being diverted on Blackridge Road, while traffic travelling west, diverted onto Burtt Road, via Great South Road.
