A man is dead after a crash at the intersection of State Highway 57 and Kingston Road, about 2km north of the Horowhenua town of Shannon.
The crash happened shortly after 11am today, when a rental van carrying seven people, believed to be tourists, went off the road and rolled.
Police said one male passenger was killed. The other occupants, all men, suffered superficial injuries, but no-one required hospital treatment.
The serious crash investigation unit was investigating the cause of the crash.
Police said the road conditions were wet but it was not known whether it was raining at the time of the crash and it was too early to say if the weather was a factor in the crash.
