An elderly man has died and two others have been cut from the wreckage of a two-car crash north of Christchurch this afternoon.
The man was the driver of a vehicle which collided with another car at the intersection of Main North Road and Marshland Road, at approximately 2.30pm today.
The passenger in the car, an elderly female, was transferred to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.
The driver of the other car involved in the crash received only minor injuries.
Police say initial inquiries indicate that the car driven by the deceased had been travelling east on Main North Road when it collided with the vehicle travelling north on Marshland Road.
