One person has been confirmed dead after a head-on collision between a truck and hot rod car at Pongakawa in the Bay of Plenty.
Another person remains trapped in a vehicle with serious injuries on State Highway 2, near Pongakawa School Rd.
The collision involved a heavy truck and car described as a hot rod.
Diversions are in place as emergency services work at the scene.
Head of Western Bay of Plenty road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said a rescue helicopter had been dispatched.
