Masterton Police have named the 46-year-old man who died in a truck crash on Admiral Rd on Monday as Donald James Irvine.
Mr Irvine, who was believed to be new to the area, worked for Hammond Spreading in Carterton. Police believe he had picked up a load of lime and was going down Admiral Rd when the truck and trailer he was driving went off the narrow road and down a bank. Mr Irvine died at the scene.
Hammond Spreading staff have been devastated by the loss of a staff member and passed on their condolences to his family and friends.
They thanked all the people who came to help, especially those first on the scene and emergency services.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash, which happened around 4pm. It was not related to the wind, which was reaching gale force speeds on Monday.
