A man was killed when he thrown from a car that lost control and struck a bank near Taupo last night.
Police this morning said the Holden Commodore crashed on State Highway 32 at Tihoi, northwest of Taupo, about 8.15pm.
The driver and sole occupant, a man in his 20s, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. He had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A police serious crash investigation is underway and initial inquiries indicated it was a high-speed crash.
Police said no details of the driver would be released until next of kin had been informed.
