Fastest import just short of 167mph

GODZILLA by name and Godzilla by nature ... Aucklander Reece McGregor's 1992 2.6 litre turbo Nissan GTR turbo was the fastest car at the Masterton Motorplex Import Shootout on Saturday. McGregor blasted down the quarter-mile Hood Aerodrome strip in 8.288s, hitting 166.76mph (267km/h) along the way. The Saturday attendance was only a little down on last year's 8000, and the Saturday night burnouts were packed, with 1500 attending. Sunday's test and tune day ? the return of the big, noisy V8s after the whisper-quiet imports ? was disappointing, overcast skies with occasional drizzle and competing attractions keeping the numbers down. Seventy-eight cars competed in the shootout. The next meeting at Hood is the Central Nationals on November 26 - 27.
