Masterton Bowling Club president Karl Taucher is confident the greens at the Dixon street complex will be in tip-top shape for opening day tomorrow.
A sentiment supported by the number one green running at 15secs, remarkably quick for this time of the year and a just rewards for the many hours of work carried out by greens staff and other members over the winter months.
Taucher said a grant of $3300 from the Masterton Licensing Trust Charitable Trust last season was a big assist towards completing major maintenance work and had many visiting players singing the praises of the condition of the greens.
Other good news for the Masterton club is the signing up of nine new members with the promise of four more to come, all but one of them being new to the game.
Taucher said their acquisition was a direct result of a focused membership drive and as a result the competition in the junior ranks promised to be the most interesting for years.
"Clubs desperately need new members to keep progressing and in our case the door is certainly open for more," Taucher said., adding that first year players only have to pay a half sub for their initial season.
