Police have named a man killed in a "tragic" quad bike accident in Taranaki this morning.
He was Rhys Mark Wilson, 40, a sharemilker from Alton, 13km north of Patea.
A co-worker at the dairy farm at Manutahi, northwest of Patea, went looking for Mr Wilson when the cows did not arrive for milking and found him in a gully, Central police spokeswoman Kim Perks said.
Emergency services were unable to revive him.
It appeared Mr Wilson had been rounding up the cows for milking about 5am when he tried to go down into a steep gully - probably to retrieve stray cows - and the quad bike he was riding flipped on to him, Ms Perks said.
The Department of Labour and police were investigating the accident.
Mr Wilson's death had been referred to the coroner.
