Farmer dies in quad bike accident

A farmer killed in a quad bike accident at Wairoa was named by police today as Kevin David Knauf, 59.

Mr Knauf died while working stock at his Hereheretau Road farm when his quad bike left a track and rolled 40m down a steep bank yesterday afternoon.

Sergeant Aubrey Ormond, of Wairoa, said Mr Knauf was not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash has been referred to the coroner, and police and the Department of Labour are investigating.
