KEY POINTS:
A prominent farmer appeared in Wanganui District Court yesterday charged with setting fire to a hunter at a remote country hut.
The accused man, whose name was suppressed, faced charges of arson and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, in relation to an alleged attack at a hut off Watershed Rd, 65 kilometres north of Wanganui.
He is alleged to have thrown a container of gasoline at the hunter during a confrontation over rights to be on the land, the Wanganui Chronicle reported.
The hunter, who had been standing in front of an open fire, suffered burns when the gasoline ignited and he spent the night in Wanganui Hospital.
The farmer was remanded in custody until Tuesday.
