A local farmer inadvertently helped a pair of female car thieves when he pulled the stolen Subaru they were driving from an Otago ditch yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Liz Waru said the black Subaru Legacy was stolen from a Thorn St address in Caversham about 8am and crashed on Mcmasters Rd at Saddle Hill about 5pm.
"A farmer helped get [the car] out of the ditch and on its way again," Ms Waru said.
"The car is in pretty bad shape."
The farmer took a photo of the car but only found out it was stolen after deciding to report the crash to police.
