A soldier who died of head injuries he suffered in a league game at Linton Military Camp has been farewelled at the army base.
Lieutenant Sam Scott, 21, died in hospital last Wednesday after hurting his head in a tackle during an intra-unit league nines game at the Palmerston North base 10 days ago.
His funeral was held at the Linton Military Camp conference centre yesterday afternoon before a private cremation.
Parents Andrew and Louise earlier said their popular son died "playing a game he loved, in a job he loved".
"He was just a special young man. Can't really say much more than that," Mr Scott said.
