Farewell next week for man who died after fall from cliff while gardening

A man who died after falling off a cliff edge earlier this week will be farewelled by friends and family next Tuesday at St Columba Presbyterian Church in Botany.

Colin James Rimmer, known as CJ by his grandchildren, died last Wednesday while carrying out gardening work.

A member of the public out walking his dog that night found Mr Rimmer's body on Howick Beach, below his property.

The 74-year-old was described as "the most wonderful husband, father and grandfather" in his obituary.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, their two children and four grandchildren.

The afternoon ceremony, a "celebration of Colin's life," will be followed by a private cremation.

Earlier this week a neighbour of the man told the Herald: "We just recently moved into the area and I was lucky to have had a lovely chat with [him].

"What a lovely man. Friendly and welcoming. I may have only chatted to him for 20 minutes but I feel privileged to have had that opportunity. Condolences go out to his family and I am certain that he will be greatly missed by them and the Howick community.''
