A fire on a Department of Conservation reserve in the Far North has burned through about 100ha of scrub and gorse-covered land at Puheke, on the western side of the Karikari Peninsula, northeast of Kaitaia.
The blaze started on coastal Mt Puheke on Monday morning, burning one side of the mountain as it spread southeast with the wind.
Much of the Far North remains tinder-dry as rain and showers forecast for last weekend failed to eventuate.
