The Far North has joined Auckland and Waikato councils in introducing new building codes of compliance covering the use of some monolithic and similar claddings.
New building compliance rules in the Far North district now require minimum cavities or air spaces behind specified types of exterior cladding.
The council said the change was aimed at giving home owners a new element of protection against poor workmanship as local bodies move to counter issues involved in leaky buildings.
