KEY POINTS:
A young Aucklander who made a fortune in the insurance industry is quitting the top levels of the Metropolis after never quite getting around to setting up an apartment there.
Charles Shrimpton, 30, bought the "eagle's nest" on levels 37 and 38 of the building in the city's CBD, establishing offices for his IT business on 37.
He then planned to fit out the empty 38 as an apartment but instead he shifted north of Auckland to a $5 million waterfront property.
He now lives at Hatfields Beach so wants to sell the two floors of 782sq m inside and 189sq m of decks.
Mr Shrimpton's company, Practiv Applied Software, provides consultancy, marketing and application development services to the insurance industry here, in Britain and Australia.
His business turns over more than $40 million a year. "I've owned the property for more than three years and originally intended to live on the top floor and run the New Zealand business from the level below," Mr Shrimpton said.
"However, my lifestyle has changed and I'm now basing myself on my property near Waiwera."
Fiona MacKenzie, of Kellands Real Estate, said the 45 staff who worked on level 37 had some of the best views in the city.
The property is valued at more than $5 million but the agent is looking for well above that before any sale is clinched.
Ms MacKenzie said level 38 could become one of the country's top apartments.
