A house in South Auckland has been extensively damaged after an early morning blaze on Christmas Eve.
Northern Fire shift manager Megan Ruru said firefighters were still at the scene in Steven St, Mangere East, after the fire tore through the home at 3.45am.
She said it took crews from three fire trucks to bring it under control.
"When the fire service got there the house was totally involved in fire," she said.
Ms Ruru said those living in the home had managed to safely get out of the house before firefighters arrived.
