Family with Masterton fatal crash teen

The 14-year-old charged over a fatal crash in central Masterton has been remanded in custody for two more weeks.

In the Masterton Youth Court yesterday, lawyer Jock Blathwayt asked for a remand for two more weeks.

Mr Blathwayt said he was expecting that pleas would be entered.

The youth is charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of Hoani Korewha and Pacer Willacy-Scott, both 15, and with dangerous driving causing injury, failing to stop and getting into a vehicle unlawfully.

Mr Blathwayt said bail was "still being worked through with the assistance of Rangitane".

Judge Tony Walsh remanded the accused until April 6 at 3pm. "At that stage we will make further progress on these charges, that is what is expected to happen," the judge said.

Judge Walsh said it was "likely there will be a bail application on that day", and consideration would be given to bail terms.

"I hope it is going well for you in the centre. Just take each day as it comes," he said.

The accused's parents were in court supporting him and he embraced them before returning to custody.
