KEY POINTS:
The family of a teenage girl killed outside an unruly party in Christchurch last month are seeking the return of her cellphone.
Jane Young, 16, died with Hannah Rossiter, also 16, after a car drove into a huge crowd milling outside the party in Edgeware Rd, St Albans, on the night of May 5.
Twenty-five people were hurt, several seriously. The incident prompted calls from several mayors for the Government to tighten up liquor laws and motor vehicle licensing.
Police said yesterday that Ms Young's silver cellphone, which she had with her when she was run down, had never been recovered.
It had "tremendous sentimental value" to her family and they would love to get it back.
Police said Ms Young had bought the phone from her savings and had kept some personal texts on it which were important to her and herfamily.
The family asked anyone who might have picked it up or even thrown it away to contact the police.
Officers say the cellphone can be left anonymously at a police station or a public place, such as a library.
A 22-year-old Christchurch factory hand, Lipene Sila, faces two murder charges, six of attempted murder, eight counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous harm, and one of driving with excess breath alcohol in relation to the incident.
He is due back in court this week for a depositions hearing date to be set.
