For Krissy Gain and Nick Burt, one of the Featherston white crosses is more than just a name.
Thomas William Gain is their great-great-uncle, who died on the Western Front in Europe.
They do not know much about him, other than he lived on "Donalds Estate" near Featherston before going to war.
He was one of three brothers who served.
Mr Burt said Gain's body was never found, but he was remembered at the Memorial to the Missing at the Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Belgium.
