A family has been winched off a cliff in a dramatic sea rescue today.
The group of four and their dog were walking along the coast near Cornwallis Beach, west of Auckland, when they became trapped by the incoming tide.
A man sailing near Ponga point called the Auckland police at 9:20am and the coastguard and Westpac Rescue Helicopter rushed to the scene.
The search and rescue team winched the family and their dog up the cliff, though the rushing tide and large swells made this a lengthy process.
Parademics are treating the family - who were shaken but uninjured.
