High house prices and too much Government control are among the reasons Tim and Paula Davenport left London.
The couple moved to New Zealand a year ago and live in Mangere Bridge, Auckland, with their two young children.
For Paula, it was a return to the country where she was born and a chance to be back near family.
Her husband jumped at the chance to quit a dissatisfying job and enjoy more freedom.
"You step off the plane and you can relax, it has a completely different feel," said Paula.
"You don't feel like you're tensed up for the battle with millions of people."
The couple said the strength of the British pound meant their savings went further here but certain things cost more in real terms.
Tim said power, broadband internet access and groceries were cheaper in London as a percentage of wages.
The couple believe the education system is better here and love the friendliness and helpfulness of strangers.
Tim, who works as a tape editor at TV3, said his job was much more fulfilling than the one in London and Paula was "absolutely" happy she moved closer to family.
